Weekend Update: Independence Edition

Yes, another update… two in less than a week. It may be some sort of record for me!

Let’s be honest. I’m only updating because I should be studying for my exam for work tomorrow. And before this, I was cleaning my room… I just got bored with cleaning.

Let’s see… I suppose I should update you all on my busy holiday weekend…

Friday night, I went out with the girls (J-Dawg, Bergs, and Linds). We went out to dinner at Emilio’s in Southington. It was adorable and I would love to give it a sparkling review, but I just cannot. As Lindsay remarked, it appears as though they’ve spent all their time and energy on decoration and not enough on the food.

It is a quaint little Italian restaurant located in the heart of Southington. The building is small and adorned on the outside with flowers and lights… really nice. However… we didn’t get the salads that were supposed to come with our meals… their ‘fresh pasta’ obviously came from a box (it was also undercooked)… and the portions were somewhat on the small side…

After dinner, we went to the diner (Luiza’s for those who care). I love a diner and feel that there is really no greater way to end the night than with a couple of cups of coffee and a piece of pie from a diner. And, as expected, my coffee and strawberry cream pie were most excellent.

Saturday night, Kev and I went to Mohegan Sun with Tom, Drunkie, and Joe to see They Might Be Giants. It was a lot of fun. Though probably not the greatest venue for TMBG, it was still a really a good time and they put on a great show. After the show, we walked around, did a little gambling, and had some drinks… it was a good night.

Sunday, Kev and I attended the longest picnic ever at his Unlce Mike’s. We arrived late and left early and it was still a long day. He wanted people there around 11 and I don’t think anyone left until like 8 or so at night. It was nice to see the family though- I really hadn’t seen them all in months…

Monday I had to work, but after work Kevin and I went to the Rock Cats game. I hadn’t been to a game in a while and it was a pretty nice night for it…until the rain. But yeah, I had beer and a hot dog. There’s not much better than beer and hotdogs at a ballgame… That might be my heaven. Adn just as it started to rain, some people Kev used to work with found us and invited us up to the Beer Garden area and bought us drinks… sweet.

The Rock Cats ended up losing like 12-6 or something like that… after the game, we called Tom and Heather and they met us at J Timothy’s for a couple drinks and then we went to a diner ( I know… 2 diners in one weekend- does it get any better than that???)…

Tuesday was the 4th of July and Kev joined me at my ridiculously huge annual D’Amato family picnic… seriously, its huge. It’s my great grandpa’s brothers and sisters and their families. He was one of 14 children… he had 6 children (grandma was the oldest), grandma had 6 children… you get the picture. When just his part of the family gathers (and they’re all there), there are over 60 of us I think… We’re the biggest of the families by far, but with us all there, the 4th of July picnic can get quite large. In 1997, it was the 50th anniversary of it, and there were over 100 attendees. It’s pretty impressive. We rent out a park, play Bingo, have a raffle, there’s a golf tournament, games… and because we’re Italian, we eat… A LOT! yeah, it’s a big deal.

So yeah, I’m pretty beat now… just been takinig it easy the last couple of days… trying to rest up. Not sure exactly what I’ve got planned for this weekend yet. Something with Kev tomorrow night… I think possibly fireworks on Saturday, but I’m not 100% positive on that one…

Ugh it’s after 9:30 now… I should probably start studying…
