Random Saturday

So while I’m just sitting here being bored I thought I’d update… I’m waiting for my mom to call me – we’re supposedly going shopping and doing lunch… It’s approaching 11am and I still have not heard from her. I called my parents house and dad said she was out grocery shopping, but should be home in a half hour or so. I guess we’re not doing the outlets down in Clinton… we’ll probably stay more local – maybe West Farms or Blue Back Square.

It’s been a fun weekend… Yesterday, I went for a quick run- just a mile or so (around Walnut Hill Park). It was too hot to do much more than that. After I’d stretched and showered and changed, Kev took me out to Capitol Lunch for hot dogs and onion rings. It was delicious – nothing like putting any calories you just burned off back on by scarfing down some dogs and onion rings. I’d actually never been there. When I was a kid, my dad would sometimes stop and bring food home from there… The place is nothing to look at it – its actually sort of a dump, but the food’s pretty good. I could actually do without their special sauce… don’t tell the natives, but I find it overrated. It tastes like there must be cinnamon or perhaps nutmeg in there. It just doesn’t seem right. But anyway, you can’t get a dog from Capitol Lunch without the sauce, so I had a dog with sauce and mustard and onions and Kev had two and we split an order of onion rings- which were dynamite.

After lunch, we decided to go to the New Britain Museum of American Art. It was really nice… Now that we’re so close, I’ve been meaning to go. I hadn’t been since I was a kid… it’s changed so much. It’s really beautiful and modern. I admire it whenever I jog by it in the park… Anyway, it was nice to get some culture and see some art. I really wish I knew more about art. I really enjoy looking at it and learning about it… maybe I should take an Art History course. Ahh, if I only had more time…

After the museum, Kev and I headed back home, so he could do some reading for the exam he has in a couple of weeks while I played some really lame games on my computer… Later that night, we called up Heather and we went to Eli Cannon’s in Middletown for dinner and drinks. Tom’s out of town on a canoe trip, so she’s been home alone. Tom doesn’t like Eli’s anymore (and it really isn’t as good as it used to be), so it was a good time to go. We started with a basket of fried pickles and jalapeno peppers (excellent) then I had the Mexi Cali wrap and Kev had the Buffalo wrap… we split them so that we each had half… the buffalo wrap was super spicy, which I liked, but Kev could hardly take it… I’m tough like that. Heather had the BBQ chicken quesadilla, which also looked great. We also, of course, consumed many awesome beers because that’s just what you go to Eli’s for. They always have a really extensive diverse beer list. I had the Bluepoint Bluberry, the Magic Hat Lucky Kat, and the Opa Opa Raspberry Wheat and Kev had every IPA on the list – all five of them. I can’t remember what Heather ended up ordering – something fruity I’m sure…

We then went home and watched really horrible television – a couple episodes on Made on MTV. I haven’t watched much MTV in years… and now I know why. MTV caters to teenagers who are just whiny and obnoxious and need to be slapped. We also watched Kev (who insists he doesn’t snore) fall asleep on the couch and snore and flail violently for an hour. Finally, around 1 AM, Heather left and I went to bed…

It was a good spontaneous, fun filled day… Today I will go shopping with mom (she called – she’s picking me up at noon), dinner with my parents, and the tomorrow it will be back to the grind…for a 3 and a half day week. Score.
